Ambulatory Care Risks and Best Practices

A Med-IQ Risk Management Development Program

Hero Graphic

Overview

Between 20% and 40% of patients experience a harm event in the outpatient setting. Up to 80% of these events are preventable. Risk professionals with ambulatory oversight and practice managers will be able to deepen their knowledge, strengthen their skills, and immediately apply new competencies to their practice setting.

“This program has been pivotal in helping me identify risk specific to the outpatient setting and, just as importantly, has given me the tools, resources, and templates to address those risks. I am very thankful for the specialized information I gained through this program.”

– Lacie Eldred, BSN, RN, Risk Management Nurse Manager for UUMAS

FAQs

Q:
How long does each course take to complete?
A:
Each course awards credit hours, which equate to the time required for completion. For example, Risk Management: An Introduction awards 1.75 contact hours, so it should take approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes to complete this course.
Q:
I am not a risk professional or a practice manager. Is this series appropriate for me?
A:
Absolutely! This series is designed for any healthcare professional working in an outpatient setting. Because risk and patient safety is everyone’s responsibility, these courses have been completed from learners on the front lines all the way to the C-suite. The series includes foundational risk management courses designed to provide an overview of the role of the risk professional as well as courses specifically designed to increase knowledge of risk and safety best practices applied to the ambulatory care setting.
Q:
Is this program similar to completing an online college course?
A:
As accredited providers of continuing education, we require successful completion of all components within the course for credit to be awarded. Simply put, learners must address the “ask” in each activity regardless of whether the response is 100% correct. This program is not “graded,” but it is reviewed for completion by faculty who will occasionally request additional information to be added to an activity. Remember, this program is for your professional development—the more effort you put in, the more benefit you get!
